New Teams prompting "The parameter is incorrect" error.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble opening Teams and getting a parameter error.

The parameter error might be caused by a corrupted installation of Microsoft Office. You can try to repair your Office installation by following these steps:

Open Control Panel - Programs and Features Click Microsoft Office in the list of installed applications At the top, click ‘Change’ On the resulting dialog, click ‘Repair’ - choose the Online Repair, it is a comprehensive fix

Another possible reason for this error is that your Teams app is not updated to the latest version. You can try to update your Teams app by following these steps:

Open Teams and sign in to your account Click on your profile picture at the top right corner Select Check for updates Wait for the update to complete and restart Teams

I gave that a go with no luck. Fully repaired Office and updated the Teams client.

Of note, when I select the slider to switch to the new Teams from classic, I'm prompted with "Something went wrong and we couldn't open the new Teams. Please try again."

you can try to clear your browser cache and cookies, and then sign in to Teams again. This can help you resolve any issues with your browser that might interfere with opening the new Teams. You can also try to use a different browser or device to see if the problem persists.

So far, I haven't found a 100% permanent fix for this, but I have found a few fixes that will at least get New Teams to open. The first is to open Teams Classic, let it ask you if you meant to open New Teams instead, and tell it to open New Teams for you. An alternative fix, which works for all users on a machine (if you're on a shared computer) is to explicitly grant permission to all users to execute in the MSTeams_%versionnumber%_x64_8wekyb3d8bbwe" folder.

When New Teams is installed, users are not given permission to the entire "C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\MSTeams..." folder, they are given execute permission only to files which contain the SYSAPPID MSTEAMS_8wekyb3d8bbwe.

I'm not sure, but I think when an update tries to run, it doesn't contain that exact app ID or something so New Teams stops working. If you give all users permission to execute in that folder, New Teams opens just fine.

The only problem being, New Teams makes a new folder with every update. 😡

I have been having the same issue. We are on a VDI system with VMware, so that complicates updates slightly. I have found that if I wait a few minutes after logging on and then try to open Teams, it seems to open. Autostart does not work. I have not tries this enough to know that it is consistent.
