New Teams prompting "The parameter is incorrect" error.

New Teams has been advertising itself to many of my users. Majority of the company has made the switch, but others are running into a parameter error. Strange bit is, I can get it to work for about 5 days. Afterwards, I'm guessing an update takes place, and New Teams refuses to open and throws a parameter error. I've tried reinstalling the application multiple times and downloading the app installer. Nothing seems to work.

The parameter is incorrect.

I have been having the same issue. We are on a VDI system with VMware, so that complicates updates slightly. I have found that if I wait a few minutes after logging on and then try to open Teams, it seems to open. Autostart does not work. I have not tries this enough to know that it is consistent.

This is the same for us as well. We log into AVD VDI Pooled desktop and get this error. I can go to the following location and it will launch Teams:

C:\Users\dan.lee\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\ms-teams.exe

But that's not a fix for my users and it's very annoying that this is the first error that they receive when they log in...

So far, I haven't found a 100% permanent fix for this, but I have found a few fixes that will at least get New Teams to open. The first is to open Teams Classic, let it ask you if you meant to open New Teams instead, and tell it to open New Teams for you. An alternative fix, which works for all users on a machine (if you're on a shared computer) is to explicitly grant permission to all users to execute in the MSTeams_%versionnumber%_x64_8wekyb3d8bbwe" folder.

When New Teams is installed, users are not given permission to the entire "C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps\MSTeams..." folder, they are given execute permission only to files which contain the SYSAPPID MSTEAMS_8wekyb3d8bbwe.

I'm not sure, but I think when an update tries to run, it doesn't contain that exact app ID or something so New Teams stops working. If you give all users permission to execute in that folder, New Teams opens just fine.

The only problem being, New Teams makes a new folder with every update. 😡

you can try to clear your browser cache and cookies, and then sign in to Teams again. This can help you resolve any issues with your browser that might interfere with opening the new Teams. You can also try to use a different browser or device to see if the problem persists.

Hey Femi!

I gave that a go with no luck. Fully repaired Office and updated the Teams client.

Of note, when I select the slider to switch to the new Teams from classic, I'm prompted with "Something went wrong and we couldn't open the new Teams. Please try again."
