Microsoft Teams File Upload Doesn't Have Replace File Option

The other day my Microsoft Teams application was no longer giving me the option to "Replace Existing File" with a new version if the files had the same name. Instead Teams was automatically renaming the uploaded file or allowing me the option to share the older copy. How do I revert my settings back to giving me the option to "Replace Existing File"?

According to your description, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the file upload feature in Microsoft Teams. Currently, there is no option to revert the settings back to the previous behavior of allowing you to replace an existing file with a new version.

This is a recent change that was made to improve the security and integrity of files in Teams.

    It was really useful to replace a file that you have shared before for an updated version of the same, what a shame.

    Here’s a good idea… lets take this basic option that works and that people are happy using and change it so that instead of replacing a file, let’s keep the old, out of date one and just rename this new one something stupid.

    How could this have been considered a good idea… it has made teams practically useless when dealing with multiple updates to the same files each day - total chaos!! Its the most basic of options !!!

    Why is this not being fixed - ill have to stop using team soon

    This is still not getting resolved? Our company also uses pre-defined naming conventions so if Teams just picks a random name no one will be able to find the right files. Please advise of when we can expect this to be reverted back to allowing to replace the file or save a copy. We need the choice.

    To accomplish this, you have to find the original post where the file was uploaded and delete that. So, if you had any useful text with the upload, it will also be removed.

    Then, to add insult to injury, even after having deleted the post and the file no longer shows in the Files tab, when you try to upload the file again, it says you already have one of that name and renames it anyway. This leads me to believe that it really isn't deleting the file, it just isn't showing it to me anymore.

    Sometimes if you go to the "Files" tab at the top you can find the actual file and delete it. Then you can re-upload the file without having to rename. Problem is that sometimes it will let you delete the file and sometimes it doesn't give the option. Very bad usability. Not a good solution. Microsoft needs to go back to the way it was!
