Microsoft Teams File Upload Doesn't Have Replace File Option

The other day my Microsoft Teams application was no longer giving me the option to "Replace Existing File" with a new version if the files had the same name. Instead Teams was automatically renaming the uploaded file or allowing me the option to share the older copy. How do I revert my settings back to giving me the option to "Replace Existing File"?

According to your description, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the file upload feature in Microsoft Teams. Currently, there is no option to revert the settings back to the previous behavior of allowing you to replace an existing file with a new version.

    I don't know if this was stated earlier, so many messages I did not have time to go through them all.

    Not perfect but I discovered this work around.

    1. Save your new file to your Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder in file explorer.
    2. When you go to attach select Attach Cloud File.
    3. Find the file you just saved and select it.

    This worked for me. When you save a file to the Teams Chat Files folder first, you are able to overwrite the existing instance/cached memory of the file.

    Do not select Upload From This Device, you are not getting rid of the cached memory of the old file and it will still rename the file.

    I hate work arounds but this does work, at least it did for me.

    Sometimes above the 'Type a message' box, you get reply suggestions, one of these is a "Share a file" option , pressing this will give you the option to replace a file like we all want.

    These suggestions seem context dependant on what the last message contained, so I guess something like 'share' or 'attach' or 'send' might trigger that option to appear.

    Its almost August and issue still exists. Not everything is a date, just make it text with no second meaning, Excel indexing go away

    When uploading FileName2024.pdf twice in row, next one changes without permission or even asking, to FileName2025.pdfIt causes harm to databases,if your files have same name yet different date, after few reuploads older files will overlap with current ones...
    Currently it only affects inside of date for me, 2021.10.07.pdf > 2021.10.07 1.pdfbut random numbers are not replaced: 1234.pdf > 1234 1.pdf > 1234 2.pdf
    also only happens with pdf files for now as png/jpg files turn into FileName2024.jpg > FileName2024 1.jpgUser unfriendly feature

    Well, Teams is now not usable to share PHP class files accross team. If the name is SuperPHPClass 1.php and inside is class SuperPHPClass {}, it totally changes functionality, it destroys it. Terrible behavior! Bravo
