Microsoft Teams File Upload Doesn't Have Replace File Option

The other day my Microsoft Teams application was no longer giving me the option to "Replace Existing File" with a new version if the files had the same name. Instead Teams was automatically renaming the uploaded file or allowing me the option to share the older copy. How do I revert my settings back to giving me the option to "Replace Existing File"?

According to your description, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the file upload feature in Microsoft Teams. Currently, there is no option to revert the settings back to the previous behavior of allowing you to replace an existing file with a new version.

This is a recent change that was made to improve the security and integrity of files in Teams.

    I don't know if this was stated earlier, so many messages I did not have time to go through them all.

    Not perfect but I discovered this work around.

    1. Save your new file to your Microsoft Teams Chat Files folder in file explorer.
    2. When you go to attach select Attach Cloud File.
    3. Find the file you just saved and select it.

    This worked for me. When you save a file to the Teams Chat Files folder first, you are able to overwrite the existing instance/cached memory of the file.

    Do not select Upload From This Device, you are not getting rid of the cached memory of the old file and it will still rename the file.

    I hate work arounds but this does work, at least it did for me.

    Same here. I use Dropbox for files now as well. Maybe Microsoft has plans to buy Dropbox. Don't know why else they would break Teams.

    It is a big problem especially when you upload several files.

    Right now I have uploaded a mix of new files and newer versions of existing files.

    OK The new files are uploaded.

    KO The newer versions generate an error message that says something like a file could not be uploaded.

    It is not possible to know which files were not uploaded. Nor before nor after the drag files operation.

    At least we should get the question of upload action (replace, keep both and rename new or old or stop upload) for all or one by one (in sequence or a menu with checks).

    Moving files (and having warning messages) is a basic feature that should work smoothly.

    Everything else should have less priority. IMVHO Maybe you are prioritizing other new features. But this is a new feature in a basic essential behavior.

    If you finally add the question for upload action...

    The current question is not OK (i think that it appears when there are only newer versions)

    1 you drag files into teams

    2 an upload starts

    3 question for upload action pops up

    4 you choose option

    5 an upload starts again

    Step 2 should occur.
