Microsoft Teams File Upload Doesn't Have Replace File Option

The other day my Microsoft Teams application was no longer giving me the option to "Replace Existing File" with a new version if the files had the same name. Instead Teams was automatically renaming the uploaded file or allowing me the option to share the older copy. How do I revert my settings back to giving me the option to "Replace Existing File"?

According to your description, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the file upload feature in Microsoft Teams. Currently, there is no option to revert the settings back to the previous behavior of allowing you to replace an existing file with a new version.

This is a recent change that was made to improve the security and integrity of files in Teams.

    This is really horrible behavior. I have no interest in finding and modifying whatever version of my files Teams is hiding somewhere. The files are on my computer. I've made changes and I need to send these changes to same person who should STOP using the old file. This is not a collaborative file. I have to resort to email (which has its own issues when Outlook blocks file types) or appending dates to all my files.

    PLEASE let us upload new versions of a file! It's the most basic functionality of any file sharing app.

    While I understand security implications, not being able to update a new version of a file without changing the URL is such a headache and exactly why it's been so difficult to have our team stop using Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. as workarounds for Teams/Sharepoint files. I find it hard to believe this functionality can't be addressed, since Box.com is HIPPA compliant and has the ability to replace the new versions of files.

    It doesn't make sense to remove the replace option in the chat.... we are reverting to the old method, sending the file to the Teams files folder and then forcing the replacement 🤦‍♂️.

    Hello, is there already a fix to this? It is really annoying and time consuming. I have a very beautiful filename and then Teams would rename it to just "1" or " 2024".
