I am new on Microsoft Teams and in fact I've never used it before. I'm a teacher and would like to know if my school needs to be registered on Teams in order for me to use it with my students?

    Hello Sophie Chevalier,

Good day! Thank you for publishing in Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you!

Based on your given description, I have a general understanding. As per my general understanding, I have provided detailed below of your questions. Please kindly check the below instruction and let me know if anything is unclear to you.

Does Your School Need to Be Registered: Yes, your school needs to have a Microsoft 365 Education subscription to use Teams for Education. This subscription provides access to Teams and other tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. If your school is already registered, you can ask your IT administrator for your login credentials.

If your school is not registered:

    • Your school can sign up for Microsoft 365 Education for free if they qualify.
    • The free plan includes Teams, OneNote, and other essential tools for educators and students.

How to Get Started with Teams for Education: Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Check Your Microsoft 365 Account

    • If your school is registered, you should receive a Microsoft 365 account (e.g., ******@school.edu).
    • Use this account to log in to Teams.

Step 2: Download and Install Teams

    • Go to the Microsoft Teams website and download the app for your device (Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android).
    • Alternatively, you can use Teams directly in your web browser.

    Step 3: Log In

    • Open Teams and log in using your school-provided Microsoft 365 account.

Step 4: Create a Class Team

    • Once logged in, click Teams on the left-hand menu.
    • Select Join or create a team > Create team > Class.
    • Add your students by entering their email addresses or sharing a join code.

    Step 5: Organize Your Class

    • Use the Assignments tab to create and manage assignments.
    • Use the Files tab to share resources.
    • Schedule virtual classes using the Calendar feature.
    1. What If Your School Isn’t Registered Yet: If your school hasn’t signed up for Microsoft 365 Education:
    • You can still use the free version of Teams with a personal Microsoft account, but it won’t include education-specific features like Assignments or Class Teams.
    • Encourage your school to register for Microsoft 365 Education to unlock the full potential of Teams for Education.

If I misunderstand you, please feel free to let me know. I will continue to assist you. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

    Nafis Iqbal Shuvo
