A Staff user left our company, had their account removed, came back a couple of weeks later.

A new staff account was created, for the Returning User and access to relevant products, Teams groups, etc... set accordingly.

In MS Teams the Returning User was added back to the department Chat. Files are attached from other users in that department (from their OneDrives), but when the Returning User trys to open the document, it says: 'You don't have access to this file. Request Access', everyone else can access the files fine.

Requesting permisson, does nothing.

Permissions are set correclty on MS Teams, for the Returning User and everyone else in the Team.

One Drive and SharePoint settings for the individual users in the department look okay.

I previously had not used Teams to contact the returning user before, so if i create a chat and attach a file for the Returning User, they can open the file.

Removing them the system and re-adding them again, still brings up the error.

Any other new staff member, added to the department works fine.

I looked at the User ID Mismatch Diagnostic feature, using 2 of the current staff One Drive site Url's againt the Returning User, but it doesn't come up with any errors.

Any suggestions would be grateful ?

While the User ID Mismatch Diagnostic feature might not have revealed any errors, double-check that the user ID for the returning user's new account matches their Azure Active Directory (AAD) identity. If the department uses a Shared Mailbox for the chat, ensure the returning user has the appropriate permissions to access the mailbox.

    If none of that works, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Clear Teams Cache: Corrupted cache data in Teams can sometimes cause permission issues. Instruct the returning user to clear their Teams cache following the instructions for their specific device (Windows, Mac, web).
    2. Sign Out and Sign Back In: A simple sign out and sign back in to Teams can sometimes refresh permissions. Ask the user to completely sign out of Teams and then sign back in with their credentials.
    3. Revoke and Regrant Access to Teams Group: Although permissions seem to be set correctly, try revoking access to the specific Teams group for the returning user and then re-adding them. This can sometimes force a permission refresh.
    4. Check OneDrive Recycle Bin: In rare cases, a lingering object in the OneDrive recycle bin for the old user account might cause conflicts. Check the OneDrive recycle bin of the users who are sharing the files and permanently delete any items related to the old account of the returning user (if present).
    5. Microsoft Support Ticket: If none of the above solutions work, considering the troubleshooting you've already done, it might be a deeper issue. Advise the user to contact Microsoft support (https://support.microsoft.com/) to report the problem. They can investigate further and provide more specific guidance.

    Hello.
    We are struggling a bit with the same situation. I created a ticket with MS, but I was ghosted.

    Affected user : She is returning after 9 months; her mailbox was shared with the manager, and later reverted the changes.

    The issue we are facing is that when someone tries to send a copy of the file on Teams, it shows "you don't have access," even though they are just dragging and dropping files to chat, meaning copying the files over.

    For the test, we created a group with 2 users.
    the other users were able to open the file but the affected user could not.

    We also noticed her OneDrive link is different from the rest of the company users'. I checked lockdown mode, and it is already off.
