With the recent update to Teams the spellchecker is not working correctly. It will show the misspelled word but when you click on it there is no longer a suggested spelling popping up. We (Several in the company) have noticed this on the latest update to the following version, Microsoft Teams Version 1.6.00.21970 (64-bit).
I have already gone in and deleted the setting.json file, that will work for a short time 10-20 minutes then back to not given a suggestion.

I tested if we use the pop out feature and chat in a seperate window spellchecker will work as intended it appear to be the same issue as posted before.

I did the above but that alone did not seem to help. I noticed you have to right click on the "Type a message" area and click on the "Check Spelling" drop down option. Select check spelling when entering text along with the Spellcheck box being checked. It worked for me.
I have done every work around, restart, clear, uncheck, and even had our IT team get on to try to fix the spell check problem. Our IT team was able to get me auto correct for the rest of the day, but when I logged on the next day it still wasn't there. Did all the steps again. I've been forced to go back into the old teams as those issues are not happening there. Obviously it's a glitch with Microsoft and the update. So, not sure why they can't just get fixed for the thousands of customers that use this for their day to day work. I consider myself a pretty good typer, but sometimes I'm moving way to fast and have my hands in way to much to have to check every single word I type. Would love for a solution as I was really enjoying the NEW Teams feature and the speed of it compared to the older version. For now I'll just hold on to the old trusty version
Does anyone have suggestions for the new Teams. Tried all of the above and spell check will not work.

Still having the same issue, sad that they cannot fix this. Spellcheck is working on the old version of teams which I am currently using.
Oddly enough, I have noticed mine is actually suggesting the proper words lately yet at the same time others in my organization were complaining how it has stopped working for them today.
I believe Microsoft is rolling out a fix and it is taking time to hit all accounts. I would have thought it would be rolled out by tenant id but that doesn't align with what my company is seeing.
