New Teams is not allowing Outlook to display contact status.
If I turn Off "Try the new Teams" and go back to old Teams, then Outlook starts showing contact status.

Here is a potential fix. From the below article about fixing Presence in Outlook it mentions to manually set the registry to "Teams"

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers

  • Name: DefaultIMApp
  • Type: REG_SZ
  • Data: Teams

Check your registry, but in my case, I has two entries under IM Providers, so I changed the Data from 'Teams' to 'MsTeams' and that fixed the problem.

I got presence/status working with Outlook 365 (not the new version).

In Teams I had to click on my picture/account in the top right and then click "Sign Out". Then when I signed back into Teams my status started working.

    Hi, I resolve with a reinstallation of classic Teams and then switch again to the new version.

    If I turn Off "Try the new Teams" and go back to old Teams, then Outlook starts showing contact status.

    I was able to fix by going into Teams' Settings > General > and checked the option "Register the new Teams as the chat app for Microsoft 365." Then closed and restarted Teams.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Thank you!
    I signed out of the New Teams, and closed Outlook.
    Reopened Teams, then reopened Outlook and I have my statuses back.
