Why is when i use the "New" teams, my taskbar doesnt show status just says "new"

Trying the New teams, instead of my taskbar showing me a checkmark or away status. the taskbar teams just says "New"

    This is not correct. The "New" flag indicates that it's "new Teams", not that you have a new message.

    I don't get it; how can you release a NEW version of an application that is missing the basic functionalities of the previous version?

    Only Microsoft can do this and get away with it.

    Very annoying indeed.

    I have the same issue. I also could right click on the icon in the taskbar and change my status but now there is no option. Is this a glitch or will there not be a way to quickly see and change my status via the taskbar?

    When Teams is active, you can set your status from the Taskbar, even when you're working in another app.

    1. In the Taskbar, hover over the Teams icon  Taskbar icon .
    2. When the Teams thumbnail image shows, select the status to display.

    I actually just found this link to known issues and I think this should update in November.

    • Support for NDI, SDI, and ISO streaming of Teams media content.
    • Set presence in taskbar.
    • Show and set presence in system tray.
    • Channel meeting start notifications for users added after the original meeting invite.

    I went under Settings-->General-->System section and checked "Register the new Teams as the chat app for Microsoft 365 (requires restarting Microsoft 365 applications)".

    After a computer restart, I got my first message notification in "new Teams." Maybe this is success?
