Unable to Create a "General" Channel from Scratch in Teams Desktop

I encountered an issue when trying to create a new team from scratch in the desktop version of Teams. It seems that naming the first channel has become a mandatory step. However, I am unable to name the channel "General" as it shows the message: "The name General is reserved. Try another name."

Could anyone please advise on how to create a "General" channel from scratch in the desktop version of Teams? Is there a workaround for this restriction?

Thank you in advance for your help.

OMG! This is what Product Management shouldn't ever look like. Would it be so hard to ask a set of users what the change in functionality should like, and how were they using the product?
Hard-coded stuff is always difficult to understand from a user's standpoint...

Hello - not sure if this still works, but I was able to do this on iphone a few weeks ago, and the mobile version of Teams still auto-creates the General channel as before. If you can USE THE TEAMS APP ON YOUR PHONE (not the desktop) - and it will only ask you to name the "Team" and will automatically add "General" as the first channel.
When using app on your Phone (for now, until Microsoft messes it up further) - you only have to enter the Team Name, and General Channel is set up automatically. Hope this helps - let us know if that doesn't work.

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that a fix is expected by Q1 2025. The original intended feature, to my understanding, is this one ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=395931 ). I have a few questions regarding the behaviors that will result from this fix:

    Hi @Shajia,

Any news regarding this bug? Many of us need to be able to use "General" as the name of our first channel in a Team.

I can understand that many users requested to be able to change that name, but I believe that the majority of us were perfectly happy with the name "General".

    Thank you!

Good day to you and thanks for your post in Microsoft community. Hope this finds you well.

I am writing to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced due to Unable to Create a "General" Channel from Scratch in Teams Desktop

Upon investigating the matter from our end, and it appears that you’ve encountered a common issue in Microsoft Teams. The “General” channel is indeed reserved and automatically created when a new team is set up.   the General channel no longer automatically created when creating a Team from scratch(a basic team)**,**seems currently to get this General channel created, you need to use the More create team optionsand choose the "From another team" or "From a template" and use the "Manage a Project" for example.
