Organize chats

I can't agree more. Why this hasn't already been implemented is mindboggling. The chat side of Teams is, at least per our company, infinitely more useful than Channels. Channels is too more like a forum for the style of communication we require in a fast-paced industry, though the format does work excellently for less urgent discussions and for creating a more easily accessible repository of information. The focus of the app should be Chats first, Channels second. Hopefully none of the devs take this as some sort of "indicator" that they "need" to remove features.

While we're at it, Microsoft needs to look into why their mobile app isn't refreshing chats correctly, but that's another topic altogether.

The problem is that Microsoft copied Facebook's Messenger rather than copy Slack.. . and Messenger is a Social app, not a business focused app.

For social app, you want on to the conversation that are active now. if you miss some gossip, that's totally acceptable.

For biz app, like many people said here, I can have hundreds of conversations, with groups or people, but these are neatly divided into handful of projects or categories.

Unlike social, in biz app, missing communication is not acceptable.

Another problem that plague the SW industry, is really giving up any hierarchy. I think Google started it, but at least they gave a way to create hierarchy via tags. but all the copycats, copied only the "clean look" of no hierarchy.

The problem of organizing stuff in a hierarchy, sometimes multiple hierarchies with tags and all - was solved many times. it may not be a simple database structure, but definitely not rocket science. So I claim this is not due to lack of technical ability but really due to laziness in both product management - realizing the actual need of the actual customers, or of engineers, too lazy to go the extra mile to deal with a little more sophisticated data structure. flat is easy. so it "Hello World".

Does anyone from Microsoft read these forums, this functionality is needed by anyone communicating with more than a handful of people. Its a shame, if slack has this by default, that large orgs dont make both available

I am also seeking a way to organize Teams Chats! I'd like to be able to apply labels or use folders, ANYTHING really!

I am really confused by the logic and strategy (or lack of) in MS actions. Aperantly, some for of chat folders or organization is actually implemented, and is in some "beta" or less-than-official release of Teams.

That would have been great, if one ignores the actual people for whom this is a real issue: to need to organize chats you need to have a lot. that usually is a biz environment - likely not a startup of 3.. and definitely not the typical social user (are there any?)

And in a corporate environment, IT will not deploy anything that is less-than-official.

So here we go. Strategy geniuses do that for a year, and then concluded that nobody needs this feature, since, well, we released it and nobody used it...
