I'd like to group chats together, not people.

I know this has been asked before, but the solution provided is not working anymore.

I get both personal chat messages and group chats chat messages from several hundred people and would like to categorize them to find, e.g. all messages from a certain group. I found that I can make Contact Groups, which means I can group several contacts into one group, but I cannot add "group chats" to such a contact group. How do I do this? thanks.

    Our organization just started using Teams, and this would be incredibly helpful to be able to create our own groups instead of just using "Pinned" or "Recent". For example, I want to create groups of people, such as "Networking Team" and "Security Team". But I also want to group chats that are dedicated to projects, so I need a group called "Current Projects" that all of those chats can go into. Please assist!

    +1 to this.

    Specifically:

    • Need to create groupings of chats
    • It is too limiting to only have Pinned vs. Unpinned
    • Ability to have unlimited groups
    • Ability to have unlimited chats in a group
    • 15 is an oddly small number for the pinned count

    You said "directly grouping chats within Microsoft Teams isn't currently supported" and "Another strategy is creating custom folders or labels outside Teams to organise chats." and what I understand is you're proposing to not use Teams.

    What I want is for this situation to change and be able to organize chats inside Teams. Is there a solution for me?

    Hi Bogden,

    Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in feature to categorize or group chats together based on specific criteria (such as by topic or sender group) within Teams.

    However, you can create separate group chats for different purposes and name them accordingly. For instance, you could have a “Project A” group chat, a “Marketing Team” group chat, and so on.

    Remember that group chats are distinct from channels, which are used for broader team communication within a specific context

    I am presuming that channels would not work for you in this scenario.
