Export a Wiki to a OneNote notebook says,

Export a Wiki to OneNote - In Teams, go to the standard channel whose Wiki you want to export. - On the wiki banner, select Get details. Select Export to Notes, and then select Finish.

What is the wiki banner?

Where do you find Get details?

Where do you Select Export to Notes?

I have access to Teams that have had Wiki pages for ages and I have added new Wiki pages to my test team, created today. "Get details", and, "Select Export to Notes", don't appear anywhere

Any ideas?

Hello Guy,

The explanation why some are not seeing any of that which Microsoft is suggesting is simply because it is not available for everyone just YET. They recently started rolling this out, and it won't be available for everyone everywhere at the same time!

To be fair, the instructions page does mention "Coming soon".

This is what the "banner" will look like:

So, it will be a banner below the menu bar with a tannish background color and a button on the righthand side reading "Get details".

And here's a screenshot of what the export tool will look like, with the "Export to Notes" button:

As depicted in these two steps in Microsoft's instructions:

  1. In Teams, go to the standard channel whose Wiki you want to export.
  2. On thewikibanner, selectGet details*. SelectExport to Notes, and then selectFinish.*

Also, the message in the Message Center (of the Microsoft 365 Admin Center) contains this subtle hint at the end:

"We urge users to export their channel wikis to OneNote once it is available."

    Hi again Guy, please try to clear your Teams desktop app cache, in most cases clearing the cache, could resolve the issue.

    1. Sign out on Teams > Quit Microsoft Teams by right-clicking the icon and selecting Quit.
    2. On your keyboard, Hold the Windows key and Press R
    3. Cut and paste %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams in the RUN then OK.
    4. Delete the contents of the entire folder.
    5. Restart Device > Restart Microsoft Teams > Sign In.

    Please let me know if this doesn't work or if you need further assistance.

    Hi Janbaz,

    No, that isn't the problem. I have created a new Team and added an empty Wiki tab. No data, no text, no formatting. The export isn't failing - there just is not an [Export] button to press. I can't even start the process. THe instructions in the Microsoft instructions do not reflect what I have on my screen

    Hi again Guy, A Microsoft Teams wiki page must be in a OneNote-compatible format in order to export it to OneNote. The following are some guidelines for setting up a Teams wiki page for export to OneNote:

    1. OneNote supports simple formatting options like bold, italic, and underlining, but it might not be able to handle more intricate formatting options. The best way to ensure that your material is exported successfully is to keep your wiki pages' formatting minimal.
    2. Steer clear of utilizing tables: Since OneNote does not support tables, any tables you have on your wiki page won't be exported there.
    3. Make use of headings. Because OneNote allows headings, you may use headings to organize the content on your wiki page. By doing this, you can make sure that your content is arranged properly in OneNote following export.
    4. Use lists to arrange your content. OneNote supports lists, so you can use bullet points or numbered lists on your wiki page.

    You can make sure that your Teams wiki material is properly exported to OneNote by adhering to these best practices.

    Thank you for your reply

    1. Yes, we are using the latest version of Teams
    2. Yes, I have the appropriate authorisations. I happen to be an Administrator, but I really should only need to be a Team Owner to follow these instructions
    3. Yes, OneNote is enabled. I can create both new Wiki and new OneNotes in the General channel of a new Team
    4. Isn't the whole point of Wiki that it isn't formatted? Any which way, creating a new Wiki with no formatting, there still is no, "Wiki banner", no, "Get details", and no, "Export to Notes"

    So I am still completely stumped!
