Export a Wiki to a OneNote notebook instructions don't work

Export a Wiki to a OneNote notebook says,

Export a Wiki to OneNote - In Teams, go to the standard channel whose Wiki you want to export. - On the wiki banner, select Get details. Select Export to Notes, and then select Finish.

What is the wiki banner?

Where do you find Get details?

Where do you Select Export to Notes?

I have access to Teams that have had Wiki pages for ages and I have added new Wiki pages to my test team, created today. "Get details", and, "Select Export to Notes", don't appear anywhere

Any ideas?

Hello Guy,

The explanation why some are not seeing any of that which Microsoft is suggesting is simply because it is not available for everyone just YET. They recently started rolling this out, and it won't be available for everyone everywhere at the same time!

To be fair, the instructions page does mention "Coming soon".

This is what the "banner" will look like:

So, it will be a banner below the menu bar with a tannish background color and a button on the righthand side reading "Get details".

And here's a screenshot of what the export tool will look like, with the "Export to Notes" button:

As depicted in these two steps in Microsoft's instructions:

In Teams, go to the standard channel whose Wiki you want to export.
On thewikibanner, selectGet details*. SelectExport to Notes, and then selectFinish.*

Also, the message in the Message Center (of the Microsoft 365 Admin Center) contains this subtle hint at the end:

"We urge users to export their channel wikis to OneNote once it is available."

Now that the Wiki tab in the channels is removed, will there be an option to export the wiki to onenote from the Wiki app?

The instructions say "Stage 2: Mid-2023

In this stage, channels' Wikitabs will no longer be supported. Users will still be able to access—that is, read and write—content in the Wiki app. It will be easy to navigate from the deprecated channel Wikitabs to the Wiki app. Users will also be able to export their content to OneNote. As in Stage 1, it will no longer be possible to create new wikis. "

But i cannot find any hint how to export to onenote from the wiki app.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

That is my understanding, as well. What I've read online is that the existing wikis will stay intact until January 2024 at which point they will no longer be visible. I believe you can still make edits to existing wikis in the interim but you can't create any new wikis. I have not yet seen a firm date in Jan 2024, just a general reference.

I would like to repost this info from Rj Murfitt from the end of April, as it works well for those with private Teams Channels (all of mine are private so I can't test this solution with public channels). You'll need to do some reformatting in Word but it's the easy button compared to other options that have been mentioned.

I discovered this as a way to download content from Wiki. This can be a workaround for Private Channels: Download content from a Wiki in a Teams Private Channel: <ul><li>Open the Teams site</li><li>Click on the private channel (private channels have their own SharePoint site)</li><li>Click on the ellipsis top-right</li><li>Open in SharePoint</li><li>Click on Site contents in the left panel</li><li>The choose Teams Wiki Data in the first column</li><li>Click on the name of the private channel to open the folder</li><li>Click next to one of the Wiki pages to place a tick in the circle</li><li>Click on the down arrow next to Word Open on the top ribbon</li><li>Select Open in app</li><li>Content will be copied to a Word file and the Word file will open on screen</li><li>Highlight the text and copy</li><li>Go back to the Teams site</li><li>Add a OneNote on a tab in the private channel</li><li>Paste the content from the Word doc into the OneNote</li></ul>
