Green Artifacts When Viewing Shared Screens in Teams

We have a few users who have been seeing green artifacts during Teams Meetings. This will happen at the same time that someone is presenting.

Specs of Laptop:

Dell Latitude 5550

Intel Core Ultra 5 135U vPro

Intel Iris Xe Graphics

32GB RAM

512GB SSD

Things we have tried to remedy this:

  1. Run Teams in Compatibility mode
  2. Update to the newest Intel Arc/Iris Xe Driver
  3. Update to a different Intel WHQL Arc/Iris Xe Driver
  4. Uninstall and Reinstall Teams
  5. Tried using Teams in the browser

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks!

    Thanks Alex.Re,

Microsoft is also working on this, I have an open Support case with them. They informed mw today:

"Due to the influx of issues on this very nature, we confirmed this to be a service Degradation and currently working with other affected clients to narrow down the issue and deploy a fix shortly."

So it could be that there is also a fix from Microsoft on its way - but I have not further information as of now.

In the meantime we also contacted Dell Support regarding this issue and for now we are cautiously optimistic to have found a "solution" for our 2 Dell Latitude 7350 devices. Or rather an acceptable workaround as we are hesitant to call staying on older driver versions a permanent solution to the issue.

Interestingly, the Dell Support seemed to be rather surprised that this issue exists. It seems that not much has been reported about it to Dell so far. Anyway, we were advised to install 2 provided driver versions. So here is what we did since our last post on our 2 Dell devices (links to the sources follow below):

    • Deleted our previously set disable HW acceleration workaround from the user registry (of the signed on user where we applied it).
    • Uninstalled the Intel Arc Graphics driver from the "Apps" list, followed by a restart.
    • Verified in Device Manager under display adapters that only the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is listed.
    • Installed the provided Intel Graphics driver using the clean installation setup option.
    • Ran the setup for the Intel 2D Imaging MCU Visual Sensing Controller Driver. (Note: Probably has nothing to do with the issue.)
    • Noticed that the setup uninstalls the current driver, then hangs. So restarted once, ran the setup again and restarted one more time to finish the installation.
    • Did basic testing with a simple Teams video call. Also checked out a few video streams that were previously affected. No issue so far but to be honest we are still awaiting further user feedback. Hopefully positive.

The provided drivers from Dell Support (for our Dell Latitude 7350 models) were:

Intel Graphics driver 32.0.101.6078: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER12216702M/1/Intel-UHD-Iris-Xe-Graphics-Driver-and-Intel-Graphics_34G3T_WIN64_32.0.101.6078_A17.EXE (Note: This driver version matches with what "Guillaume Desfarges" mentioned in their second post on page 2 btw., kind of overread that. - Also, not sure how to quote mid text.)

Intel 2D Imaging MCU Visual Sensing Controller Driver 74.22000.13.19:

    https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER12451152M/1/Intel-2D-Imaging-MCU-Visual-Sensing-Controller-Driver_R3KFK_WIN64_74.22000.13.19_A04.EXE

(Note: As mentioned above, probably has nothing to do with the issue.)

So (without any guarantee of course) our advise would be to test out the Intel Graphics driver version 32.0.101.6078 using the clean installation setup option on 1 affected device to see if this "fixes" the issue until Intel resolves whatever they presumably broke during their driver development the last few months. - After uninstalling/removing any currently installed Intel Graphics driver(s) of course.

Link to the Intel Graphics driver version 32.0.101.6078:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/834050/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-windows.html

(Or alternatively use "Extract" via the above Dell driver package. Assuming that Dell has not further modified the driver it should be the same.)

I am having the exact same issue on a Dell 5550 with a 165H and 64GB of ram when using Teams or Edge. I currently have driver 32.0.101.6460 installed.

I did notice that the GPU was being utilized at 100% during my latest Teams video call. When the green artifacts were showing, the usage was split/bouncing between the "Video Decode" and "Video Processing" graphs on Task Manager/Performance. The call was 1 hour long and had 12 different video streams running. For the first half of the call, 2-4 boxes were in green Matrix mode, but midway through the call, the artifacts cleared. At that point, the GPU was still running at 98-100% utilization but with all of the usage going towards the "Video Processing" graph.

I am going to try to run 6557, which was released late last week.
