Teams account for child without phone number

Hello, I have been monitoring this thread for over a year, and it is unfortunate that there is still no resolution from Microsoft.

But, there is a work around.

Just purchase a number; set up teams account for your children, and then cancel the number.

I purchased my numbers through numberbarn.com. They were $5.00/each.

If you want, you can park the numbers for $2.00/mo, and then port them over to your child’s cell phone, if/when that time comes, or just cancel the account. Either way, it is easy to then register teams with the newly purchased number, under your child’s family account, setting it up under their email address/profile.

MS wants your phone number so when you go over their 'free' limits on the product, they will directly bill your cell account for the usage making it extremely difficult to reverse the charges. Read their usage policy, they have 'waived' their current fee schedule due to covid but do not list when they will reinstate it, so they will be catching loads of people that got used to using the service unaware and cash in huge.

Would you expect anything else from such a company?

Totally agreed, don’t market team as a family centric app if its not even able to handle kid’s account without phone number.

This is totally misleading. Disappointed :( and waiting for update.

If I knew we need an active phone for each family member, I would never have bought office 365 family plan. My kids have to do online learning but they are too young to have phones. It’s a ridiculous policy to have a separate phone for each user regardless what age they are. Even more ridiculous is the response from MS to borrow another family members phone # - what will that person use?!

MS, any solution to this problem? Schools in India using MS Teams for students. We can’t get mobiles for each child in the family at early age.
