Screen-sharing in Teams Mac, no ‘Windows’ or ‘Desktop’

Since yesterday, I am unable to share anything but PPTs in Team meetings with colleagues.

MS Teams 1.2.00.28258 on Mac 10.15 – since yesterday, I cannot share anything but PowerPoint files. The option to share ‘Desktop’ and ‘Windows’ have disappeared. I have checked the boxes in System Preferences > Security > Screen Recording.

hi all,  you have to go deep into preferences and allow the app to access your computer.  I know this isn't the best explanation, but I got it to work on my bosses computer.

This may be it:

  1. Click the Apple menu.
  2. Then, go to System Preferences > Click Security & Privacy > Privacy tab.
  3. Click Screen Recording.
  4. Click the lock icon to make changes.
  5. If required, enter your admin password.
  6. Finally, click the checkbox next to Microsoft Teams.
  7. A notification window will ask you to restart it. Agree.
  8. Then, try again and see if the issue persists.

If not this, something very similar.

You are close to that you have to do, problem is for many that the 'approval' is there but doesn't seem to have any effect. It is as if the program is not paying attention to the approvals.

    This cannot be a bug issue, as Microsoft had a pop-up error message available for attempting this standard action - screen-sharing files.  That's why only Power Point is supported has been shown,

    It is maybe worth asking the Microsoft moderator for this issue why he/she is not aware of this functionality being intentionally removed by somebody in the Microsoft Teams 365 software group.

    We also need to know when a patch/fix will be applied to return screen-sharing MacBook screens using Teams.

    as you can see, Teams, just like Zoom, has full disk access on my MacBook. It can, and does, screen share and screen record(share) as well. It just doesn't screen-share any files apart from Power Point format. .ppt

    With Zoom I can screen-share any file format on my MacBook.

    This is a Microsoft Teams bug. 100%.

    I think that may be an example of the bug. Example, the Microsft Edge Browser sends a request to the macOS which then displays the icon in the little windows in Privacy & Security. This is where you choose to allow the app to have access. Then I was able to give Edge access to screen recording and the Teams app video sharing had no problems. I really believe this is a bug in Teams not macOS, since the other microsoft apps dont have this issue and perform as expected. This hurts us who want Apple product and M365.

    Agreed.  Depending on whether I use the Teams for Mac app or 365 Teams web version, I get different error messages when trying to screen share from my MacBook.  One mentions only Power Point files are supported and the other than the file may have been deleted or moved. I have raised this issue with Apple as well, so, hopefully, pressure will come from both sides to address it.  

    I teach virtually and this problem is giving me major headaches.

    Workaround:

    Fortunately, I get students who have Windows 10 installed on their PCs or laptops to screen share files back to me, after I’ve first uploaded them into the common Files tab where they can access them.
