Screen-sharing in Teams Mac, no ‘Windows’ or ‘Desktop’

Since yesterday, I am unable to share anything but PPTs in Team meetings with colleagues.

MS Teams 1.2.00.28258 on Mac 10.15 – since yesterday, I cannot share anything but PowerPoint files. The option to share ‘Desktop’ and ‘Windows’ have disappeared. I have checked the boxes in System Preferences > Security > Screen Recording.

hi all,  you have to go deep into preferences and allow the app to access your computer.  I know this isn't the best explanation, but I got it to work on my bosses computer.

This may be it:

  1. Click the Apple menu.
  2. Then, go to System Preferences > Click Security & Privacy > Privacy tab.
  3. Click Screen Recording.
  4. Click the lock icon to make changes.
  5. If required, enter your admin password.
  6. Finally, click the checkbox next to Microsoft Teams.
  7. A notification window will ask you to restart it. Agree.
  8. Then, try again and see if the issue persists.

If not this, something very similar.

You are close to that you have to do, problem is for many that the 'approval' is there but doesn't seem to have any effect. It is as if the program is not paying attention to the approvals.

    If I keep MS Teams not full screen and also the single windows (word, excel,..) not full screen I see them in the list of possible windows to share

    If I keep them full screen, they disappear from the list of possible single sharable windows

    Does this work on Mac OS by default?

    That is, in MS Teams on Mac OS Catalina you can only share single windows if they are not open full-screen

    In various responses to various discussions, full screen has this anomalous attitude.

    I hope they solve this problem as soon as possible to make MS Teams fully usable in the Apple Mac OS ecosystem.

    Now FINALLY this does the trick!! It was the one combination I didn’t try...I wouldn’t have thought of having Teams also not in full screen would work. 

    The pity is that since March this issue is still persisting but at least this workaround should do the much needed trick!

    I found the solution in the Microsoft Technical Forum (excuse me for not being as precise as I can be, I've been out of the Microsoft world for 12 years since I retired. I just came back since an organization I'm in chose M365 and Teams)

    The problem is in Settings:  Teams - Setting - Application - New Meeting Experience

    You need to uncheck that setting and quit Teams and log back into the Desktop app. Start a Video call and click  the Share Icon. You'll notice a new window pop-up that looks different from the previous pop-ups which will take you to the System Preferences

    • Security & Privacy - Screen Recording: and lo and behold there is the Microsoft Teams which you should check to allow access. (note you may have to unlock Security & Privacy with an admin account password)

    After you've verified that screen sharing is working you can re-enable the new meeting experience and it will perform normally. This is not my solution so credit should not come to me but to rickyroca73

    I don't agree with the above logic: Apple XYZ app worked perfectly on the Windows 8 OS and now on Windows 10 there is a bug. Therefore Microsoft has to fix the problem in Windows OS. The apps must follow the compatibility of working with the Operating System. In many cases apps which could only run on 32-bits were retired when the OS only supported 64-bit. If the App and its developer refuse to patch/upgrade or whatever, their users are the ones that suffer. Microsoft Teams wants to compete with Slack and Zoom for example, neither has this problem with Apple OS.

    I believe this is more than your regular Mac app developer btw. Microsoft Teams is a flagship platform.
