Can't open files from Teams in Office desktop app

I've been using MS Teams to work with PowerPoint and Excel documents with the option Open in desktop app. Until a few weeks ago  when I try to open a document with the option open desktop app I get the launching window of the app (any office app like Excel, Powr Point, Word, etc.) but it doesn't start anything. This is with all the files I try. I haven't made changes to my settings or anything. I have tried to clear the cache in the Teams Folder and I have checked that the apps are linked to the right file types but nothing works. I also have looked on the official site for help and in this community but I can't find any fixes that solve this.

    In my case the connection between Teams starting up PPT was broken. Teams uses 'url' startup connection (look at Control Panel - Standard app file type overview. And I could not add this connection. I ran an Office repair (https://support.microsoft.com/nl-nl/office/office-programma-s-herstellen-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b?ui=nl-nl&rs=nl-nl&ad=nl) and it was corrected again.

    Thanks...It was a new laptop out of the box yesterday so all the software was 100% up to date. In the end I gave up and did a full Microsoft Repair and reinstalled all the software which then worked...

    I have solved this issue.  Here is how.

    It seems that teams uses Office 356, and my Office version was 2013.  Thus there was a conflict in teams when I asked teams to open assignments by using the Open in Desktop App.

    You need to install Office 356 and uninstall Office 2013 (or your version).  Then you can start working with teams normally.

    After this change in Office versions, you might need to assign apps by file types.  Eg, to open a word doc (.doc) you need to assign word to open it.  You do so by going to search on the desktop, type in Default Apps, choose default aps by file type, and then assign which default app opens what.  Eg: .ppt   assign Powerpoint ;  . xls assing Excel, and so on.

    Hi,

    I am too experiencing problems when trying to open assignments by using the Open in Desktop App.  When I checked the default apps by protocol, the app used for word is Microsoft office 2013.

    Is it ok?

    What needs to change?
