I've been using MS Teams to work with PowerPoint and Excel documents with the option Open in desktop app. Until a few weeks ago when I try to open a document with the option open desktop app I get the launching window of the app (any office app like Excel, Powr Point, Word, etc.) but it doesn't start anything. This is with all the files I try. I haven't made changes to my settings or anything. I have tried to clear the cache in the Teams Folder and I have checked that the apps are linked to the right file types but nothing works. I also have looked on the official site for help and in this community but I can't find any fixes that solve this.

I fixed by renaming the file and it opened right up.
Here's the problem I had (which I think is the same as everyone else): User used to be able to open documents inside of the Teams desktop application. This was isolated to one Team and not others. If one double clicked on any of the files, they would open outside of Teams and in Office 365.
Cause: The user changed their View and did not include the "Type (icon linked to document)" column. Adding that back fixed the issue.
Well I found a solution that atleast works for now, I tried logging off teams and then logging in again which didnt work. Then I logged off with my personal microsoft account in word and logged in with my student account. And atleast for now I have access again.
I had the same kinds of issues and was frustrated at not being able to open the docs in app. I tried to follow these threads and solve it myself, but could not figure it out. I think my problem may have been related to multiple accounts. I finally went online to microsoft customer support chat. After a couple of attempts I seem to have gotten the right person who remotely took over my computer, figured it out and fixed it. I don't know what they did exactly, but it worked and I have not had a problem since. So if you are really stuck... go to the online support chat and ask to speak to a live person. If the first person cannot help you then try another.
