Can't open files from Teams in Office desktop app

I've been using MS Teams to work with PowerPoint and Excel documents with the option Open in desktop app. Until a few weeks ago when I try to open a document with the option open desktop app I get the launching window of the app (any office app like Excel, Powr Point, Word, etc.) but it doesn't start anything. This is with all the files I try. I haven't made changes to my settings or anything. I have tried to clear the cache in the Teams Folder and I have checked that the apps are linked to the right file types but nothing works. I also have looked on the official site for help and in this community but I can't find any fixes that solve this.

Hi Dave,

Sorry for the late reply. I've checked your log file and found there's a 404 error when it tries to launch Office app. HTTP 404 generally indicates the object is not found. So I think this issue is related with the process when Teams tries to open the other Office applications. I'll try to consult our senior engineering team for this issue. And if it's convenience, please also collect Teams diagnostic log (Ctrl + Shift + Alt + !) for us.

Besides, may I know your Office app version? Please open Word app and capture a screenshot via File > Account > Product Information for us.

Hi Dave,

Since the issue persists, I'd like to check if it also happens to Teams web client. If so, you can try to collect the Teams log file by using the web debug tool.
1. Open a single web page in browser's private mode and sign in Teams web client.
2. After the web page is completely loaded, press F12 to open web debug tool, then navigate to Network tab.
3. Click the button to start capturing the HTTP traffics, then reproduce this issue. You can reproduce this issue 2~3 times.
4. Stop capturing the traffics, then export as har file and send to us via Private Message.
While if the issue doesn't happen in Teams web client, please open Teams desktop client and press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1 to download the Teams diagnostic log and send to us in Private Message. The diagnostic log will be downloaded to Downloads folder.

Hi Marvin, sorry for the delay in my response.

I downloaded the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant but it doesn't seem to repair a thing, I mean, it says that is scanning but it takes +2 hrs. and shows no changes at all. I have also tried re installing MS Office and it has gone well but it doesn't solve my problem.

I'm currently downloading my filles locally, work on them and then uploading them to teams, I have no issues with this but it is very complicated as my work consists in modify slides in massive presentations with my team.

Hi Dave,

If the app window is initiated successfully, it indicates the request to call Word and Excel apps is working. In this scenario, the issue could be related with the file opening/accessing. Please first make sure your Office apps are updated to the latest version. For your reference, see Update history for Office 365 ProPlus. If it's already the latest version, please try to run Office Repair to check if it helps.

Besides, if you download the files to local, then open the files directly via Word or Excel app, will it work?
