MS Teams crashes when EOS Webcam Utility is used for Video

Hi,

I am using Microsoft Teams for my school. I am using EOS Webcam Utility (NOT Beta) with my Canon EOS 80D. It was working perfectly with video calls for school up until about two weeks ago. Now, whenever I turn on my camera in a video call (and the video setting is EOS Webcam), my Teams crashes and I get an error saying, "There was a glitch. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please sign in again."

In my school, there is an expectation that my camera is on, and my computer's webcam is unusable, so I really need this fixed, and quickly.

Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Kane

Didn't work for me either but I then exited the client and clear the cache and a I now have my EOS M50 running reliably as a web cam again with Teams client Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.30866 (64 bit)

I used the following method to clear the cache

    1. Quit Microsoft Teams.
    2. Cut and paste the following location into File Explorer: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
    3. Delete contents of the entire folder.
    4. Restart Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft support sent me this solution and it worked for me.

Open a PowerShell window (Right-click the start menu, then select Windows PowerShell from the menu), and paste the following line in it:

    spps -Name Teams; gci $env:AppData\Microsoft\Teams -Directory | ? { $_ -in ('Cache','databases','blob_storage','IndexedDB','') } | % { Remove-Item $_.FullName -Recurse -Force }

    Then, just press enter

This will clear the cache for Teams, which just might clear up these problems.

Sure. I'm not on the Microsoft Teams team, just an employee that is also facing this same issue. It appears that an engineer has been assigned the work, and has completed the fix in code.

I'm not sure if the fix has been verified, and I'm not sure what the timeline looks like for when that fix in code will ship to customers, but I would take it at least as an indicator that the root cause has potentially been identified and progress has been made towards resolving the issue.

As an aside, the same issue was impacting certain Sony DSLR cameras, and the fix should resolve for both Sony and Canon DSLR cameras.

This is great news, thanks for the "insider" information.

I have been experiencing this problem since my Teams Windows client upgraded to Teams Version 1.3.00.30866 (64 bit).

Every time I select my EOS camera in the Teams client it crashes with a message 'there was a glitch'. The only work around has been to revert to an older version of the client which works well but is not ideal as I am not getting access to the new functionality. Any updates on progress would be appreciated.
