Microsoft Teams - Black screen when sharing desktop, works with single application

I hate it, I just hate the microsoft development team that loves to mess up our lives with these problems. I click on the teams sharing tray installed on windows and it just does nothing, it reduces the screen to the side corner as if it were sharing my screen but nothing is actually being shared. if i join teams on google chrome the sharing happens normally. The worst are these crazy solutions that the pseudo technicians put on the forums. I have reinstalled from scratch, I have already cleared the cache, I am almost setting my computer on fire.

Hi Josh, this solution did not work for me. Per your post, I changed the Graphics Setting to High Performance and checked to box to run as administrator, but when I try to share the entire screen via Teams remotely, it still looks black.

I'm using RealVNC to remote in to my PC, and the privacy settings are such that the screen is blanked when I log on. With this setting activated, I cannot share my entire screen (looks black), but I can share individual applications.

If the setting is NOT activated (screen is not blanked), it works fine and I can share my entire screen, without changing the Graphics settings or running as administrator. The caveat is that people in the physical location of my PC can also look at my screen and see what I'm doing, which is not desirable.

Here's the interesting bit -- If the setting is not activated, I turn off the monitor, and then share, it still looks black. If I share and then turn off the monitor, the shared screen is still displayed, but it is static and does not refresh.

So it seems that the monitor has to be physically turned on in order to share the entire screen. The best workaround I've come up with so far is to share the screen of the client PC, the computer I'm remoting in from, and in this case, Teams would look at the VNC application window. Another option might be a pseudo display connector, to try to trick the computer into thinking the monitor is turned on when it's actually not. I have not tried this yet though.

I modified the steps a bit, but your idea helped me fix my issue.

I think the ultimate cause of this is my laptop has two GPUs (integrated and dedicated) and I RDP into my work laptop from from personal PC

Open "Graphics Settings" under "Choose an app to set preference" select "Desktop App" then "Browse"

Find the Teams App, File location should be "C:\Users<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe"

Set the graphics preference to the dedicated GPU or "High Performance"

Tested and confirmed I was able to share my entire desktop on a teams call

Edit: I would also like to add that I did set teams to always run as an admin (so it could be a combo of the graphics settings and running as admin)

If you find any solution for Treawlony1986 can you please share it with the community because I have exactly the same issue. I own a QHD 21:9 monitor and I'm not able to share the entire desktop as for on the other side is displayed a black screen.
If while sharing the entire desktop I change the external monitor resolution from 3440 x 1440 to 2560 x 1440 the screen sharing starts working, going back to 3440 x 1440 it is black again.

I am having the same issue. My students can't see the videos I share that a few days ago they were able to see. 

Is it on my end? Is it on their end? 

What's the problem? 

Everything is updated and new. 

I have only been using the application since September.

I had a similar issue. I rebooted and ran the team app as admin and that seem to fix the issue.
