Can't link existing plan in Planner to Teams

My team at work has a plan that was created in Planner.  We now want to also start using Teams, but we are unable to link the existing plan to Teams.  When we try to add a Planner tab to a channel, we get the option to "Use an existing plan from this team" or create a new plan, but there's no option to link to an already existing plan in Planner.  Does anyone know how to do this, or can you only link to plans that were created in Teams?

    Hi JEDI_KNIGHT,

    Do you need further assistance?

    Regards,

    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,

I think that JEDI_KNIGHT's issue (like mine) is as follows:

Any plan created within TEAMS is accessible to via "Use an existing plan from this team".

Unfortunately if a plan has been copied or created within Planner itself and you are trying to add that plan into TEAMS, it can't locate it. It is only able to access plans already created within TEAMS.

That is limiting as I have duplicated multiple plans withing Planner, but cannot add them into any of my channels within TEAMS.

Here is the workaround that works for me:

    In Teams App:

    1. If desired, create a new team. If you want to use an existing team for the plan, skip this step.

    In Planner (website):

    1. Select the plan you want to use in Teams.
    2. Choose "Copy Plan" from options (see screenshot below)
    3. In pop-up window
      1. Leave the name as is (ie, "Copy of Invoicing"). You can rename later and this way you know which is the original and which is the copy.
      2. Select the group you want to assign this to. Make sure it is a group that is visible in the Teams app.
      3. Check all boxes under Include to copy as much content as possible.
      4. Click "Copy plan"
    4. After confirmation that plan is copied successfully, you will need to manually
      1. copy all assignments over.
      2. check off the tasks that were already completed.
For this purpose, you will have to go back and forth between the original and copy
    5. Rename original plan (ie, "OLD Invoicing")
      1. Click the 3 dots (. . . ) for the menu, as in screenshot below
      2. Plan Settings
      3. Edit name -> Save
    6. Rename copied plan (ie, delete the "Copy of" portion)

Note: I chose not to delete the old plan, but rename it. This way I have all of the old info in case something didn't copy over as needed. But, make sure team members know not to use the old plan anymore.

    In Teams App:

    1. Select the Team
    2. Add a Tab -> Planner  (as in instructions in prior post)
    3. Your new copy of the plan will now be in the "Existing Plans" drop-down

    Hi GlennSW507,

Since the similar issue could be caused by different reasons, it is suggested to create a new thread in our forum for a better assistance. Our related engineers will help with your issue.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Carlos

I have the same issue as  Jedi_knight and Glensw507.  What was the resolution?

I created a plan in Planner and tried to add to existing team.  It does not find my plan in the drop down to "use and existing Plan".

    thanks!

Thank you @Kathryn.M. That worked great.

It is a shame that this thread has been here soo long and Microsoft does not have the courtesy to even respond and say to the many people here that yes we are aware of the issue and we don't know how to solve it. There is just silence. Not good at all.

I have a workaround that isn't 100% elegant, but if you've spent alot of time in Planner (wish you could copy/paste buckets- but that's for another day) and don't want to recreate that from within Teams, here's the process... What I did was use the ellipses on the plan itself to copy a link. Then back in Teams, I added a Website to the tab and pasted that link there. It shows my O365 header, but the guts of the plan are there. Notes still transfer to ToDo back n forth. Comments still sent to the Group email.
