Microsoft Teams status is stuck on "Out of Office"

I recently went on vacation and accessed Teams from my tablet for the first time by installing the Teams app. Now I am back at work and using my work laptop. Even though I have signed out of the Teams app on my tablet and removed my work account from all Microsoft apps on my tablet, my Teams status is still stuck as "Out of Office." How can I change it to "Available?"

Things I have tried:

  1. (tablet) Changing status to "Available" on the tablet app
  2. (tablet) Signing out of the tablet app
  3. (tablet) Removing my work accounts from my tablet completely
  4. (laptop) Signing in and out of the Teams app
  5. (laptop) clicking on my profile pic and changing the status to "Available" or any other status. (There is no change at all)
  6. (laptop) typing in the command to change my status to available (no change at all)
  7. (browser) Accessing Teams through Chrome on my laptop and doing 5 and 6 (no effect)

Note that my Skype and Outlook status is correctly set to "Available." I'm at a complete loss and would really like help with this.

This is the solution. It worked immediately and is very simple.

That said, I wish my company wasn't forcing us to move from Skype for Business to Teams. It's unbelievable that such a basic problem is still around after more than 2 years since it was first reported. Whatever the underlying cause, this is terrible and cost me valuable time. Fix it already!

My status of "available, out of office" changed after these steps from an earlier post:

    • Go to File Explorer, and type in %appdata%\Microsoft\teams.
    • Once in the directory, you’ll see a few of the following folders:
    • From within ‘Application Cache’, go to Cache and delete any of the files in the Cache location.
    • %appdata%\Microsoft\teams\application cache\cache

I continued to the blob_storage instruction but then noticed that the status had changed to "available".

I am having the same problems as other users. In fact, I have the same problem every single time I have an out-of-office Outlook appointment or use Outlook autoreplies. This has been a constant problem ever since the status integration work was conducted. It is infuriating for users and completely defeats the purpose of integrated apps or, in fact, of any real-time communication platform.

Current functionality Why it's a problem Proposed solutions
If Outlook autoreplies are set up, Teams will automatically list user presence as out of office Autoreplies do not necessarily mean a user is out of office; they just mean that the user wants senders to receive a particular piece of information immediately Do not alter Teams presence based on whether an Outlook autoreply is set up
If Outlook autoreplies are set up, Teams will automatically pull the user's Outlook autoreply message as the Teams status message Users may prefer for their Teams status messages to differ from their Outlook autoreplies Do not alter Teams status message based on whether an Outlook autoreply is set up

OR

Enable users to manually override the mirrored status message in Teams to either delete it or use a message of their own choosing
Teams presence and status do not sync with Outlook presence often enough to be useful, or even after changing Outlook presence, restarting Outlook, and restarting Teams Showing available users as unavailable for an hour or more after they have returned from an OOO appointment or switched off an Outlook autoreply makes Teams useless for real-time communication Teams presence should sync immediately with Outlook presence

OR

Enable users to push a presence and status sync between Outlook and Teams (even if only by restarting applications)

I have the same issue (Teams shows me "out of office" even though "out of office" is deactivated in Outlook; manual status update in Teams does not work; status change via command prompt in Teams does not work either).

Based on the threads I read the reason of having outside office meetings in the calendar might be the reason for me as well. However, it is not a solution to just delete those appointments or change the status of those appointments because sometimes colleagues who for good reasons do not share their calendar with me share individual out of office appointments with me so I know they are not available. Changing those appointments would have to be done by them and result in incorrect status for them. Deleting such appointments from my calendar would result in me missing relevant information.

I suggest Teams should only reflect the user's own OOO status as set in Outlook.

you can manually edit the "OOO" status from others' meetings on your own calendar. But I definitely agree with everything you said! The various bugs I have encountered are infuriating.

I ended up fixing it by turning the out of office back and and then immediately off. I guess I found a bug?
