Stopping the microphone from automatically adjusting level

Every time I run a meeting in the Teams app, my microphone level automatically gets set to 100%. 

I have set the communications option in the control panel to do nothing and there appears to be no option in the app to stop it from doing this. I have a sensitive microphone that requires low gain - this is very frustrating as I am using it to teach lessons remotely.

Any ideas?

    Thank you soooo much... it really was about giving up hope that i would be able to use my microphone within Teams!!

    I also had to check the "Listen to this device" box for the virtual cable to work.

    This is brilliant   - thank you.  I had the problem of a set up that was fine with skype an zoom but strangely unresponsive in teams.

    After 2 days of trying  all manner of unistall-reinstall etc, (trying different devices and generally swearing at the test call man) a combination  of the fix of virtual audio cable followed by the earlier suggestion below, did finally work !    I've no idea how you worked all this out, but I'm glad I tried it and grateful for this :

    Steps:

    1. Download from: https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm
    2. Extract and install driver for virtual audio cable and restart
    3. Open sound settings
    4. Playback - Set your normal speakers as default
    5. Recording - Set your normal microphone as default
    6. Recording - open properties for your microphone
    7. Under listen tab, set to play through the new "Cable Input" device, and tick the box  "listen to this device"    +  apply
    8. In Teams, device settings, set the microphone input to the new "Cable Output"

     press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box, then type "mmsys.cpl" > click Recording tab in the Sound window > select the used microphone, then click Properties button > in the Properties page, click Level tab> manually set to 50 > click Advanced tab > uncheck the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device option under Exclusive Mode section.
