Teams away setting automatically switching on when not away

Hi there,

My teams status is constantly switching to "away" while I am working on my computer. This is very frustrating as my co-workers need to know when I am actually away or available.

Is there a manual override for this? It would be excellent to be able to set it as available so that my team knows they can reach my even if I am working on paper, or in this case if it has switched itself to "away".

Thanks!

I inadvertently solved the problem when I purchased a dell display link docking station. When hooked up to the docking station, with multiple monitors, razor keyboard, and a wireless mouse, it shows me as available around the clock. I am not sure why it works, but it certainly does.

I also just downloaded caffeine so that I can test it without it being hooked up to the docking station. I am using more than one laptop, and have a need to switch from time to time during the day and don't want to appear as if I am not working when the software that I need is on a utility laptop. As of this post, it has managed to keep me as available for the last 17 minutes. I can tell that it is working since I can view the minutes of away time for a co-worker going up every minute without me touching the laptop.

I have exactly the same issue, Teams shows the Away status although I am working on my computer with Teams active. We are now in March 2021. How come this item has still not been resolved? Very, very annoying.

A thought occurred to me yesterday.

I am usually signed in on both my phone and laptop, if I'm on the go as well I occasionally bring a tablet that also uses Teams.

Perhaps if one of the 3 isn't getting used it goes on away they all do? Even if you're in a meeting, or in my case yesterday "Presenting" is that possibly what's causing this?

I have to use at least 2 of these devices all the time and it seems to me that if 1 is being used and is active, shouldn't both (or all 3) be considered active and not "Away" when the same account is in a call, at their desk, or even presenting?

I'm probably wrong but the idea came to me yesterday when I was presenting a powerpoint and people who weren't in the meeting texted me asking me to call them when I was back at my desk. When I asked why they thought I was away said they were seeing me as away.

I am also having this problem, 8 months (at least) after it was first reported to Microsoft. I was ACTUALLY ON A TEAMS CALL (with video on) when my colleagues noticed it said I was away. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason why it switches back and forth. I can be in teams and physically set my status to "Available" and it will STILL show away. This is a major flaw that needs to be corrected, especially with the remote working now-a-days.
