Teams away setting automatically switching on when not away

Hi there,

My teams status is constantly switching to "away" while I am working on my computer. This is very frustrating as my co-workers need to know when I am actually away or available.

Is there a manual override for this? It would be excellent to be able to set it as available so that my team knows they can reach my even if I am working on paper, or in this case if it has switched itself to "away".

Thanks!

    Dear Seven,

Some of my colleagues have the same problem.

The thing is that Teams has recently replaced our entire phone system. In the configuration of the call queues, you can decide presence based routing. See Below.

In summary, Teams will send the call to the persons available. Which is a very cool feature when we think about the internal calls, video meetings, etc.

In the case of the status switching to Away after 5min working outside Teams is a really big problem. Fortunately, it is not the case for all my colleagues, but imagine if we receive external calls with everybody Away, then we could miss lots of calls, or directly send everything to the voicemail (doesn't seem really serious to be sent several times on a voicemail during working hours).

Please find a solution for this, thanks !

I think the issue is, it shouldn't show we are "away", when we are clearly working on our PC. Just because I'm not active in Teams does not mean I'm not actively working.

This is a current new flaw in Teams.

    Hi Kathleen,

I have consulted our engineers further about your problem. If we don't work on Teams although Teams is running in the background and we work on our computer, the status will be changed to Away after five minutes automatically.

Given your situation, there is a workaround you can have a try. You can set a status message and show the message when someone message you so that your co-workers know you are available at that time. To do that, please click on your profile picture and select Set status message, then type any status message like "I'm available." in and check the Show when people message me option. You can also set the time when the message can be cleared. After setting it, click Done to save the changes. Then your co-worker will be able to see your status message when they message you or @mention you.

Hope this can help you and welcome back to share your feedback with me.

    Regards,

    Seven

I swear they've made a time change because this is happening to me now, too.
