Moving posts from one channel/Team to another?

I just came across this post while looking for the same thing, despite it being 4 years later.

You can do this now.

1. Go to the post you'd like to move
2. Click on edit (pencil icon)
3. Click on Settings
   1. select Post on multiple channels
4. Click on the plus sign by the Channel name
5. Select the channels

A FEW OF THINGS I'VE NOTICED THAT COULD BE AN ISSUE:

• If you want to move a post between channels, you first have to make a copy of the post to another channel (select both channels at the end of the instructions above). Then you need to go to the channel you want to keep the post and follow the same steps to remove it from the original channel
• Timestamp DOES NOT get transferred. It literally copies the post into the new channel. So the date/time on it will look as if you had just posted for the first time, which can be frustrating. My workaround was to copy the timestamp and include it in the post.
• Replies DON'T get transferred. I'd say this is the worst part. That was a very frustrating thing for me. I imagine it has to do with the fact that users permissions in different channels.

It being September 2024 and still not resolved.

Typical usecase Microsoft is that as a result of COVID, teams was rushed out and after some time, people realised the "knowledge" needed to be classified and sorted into some meaning. New channels formed but the knowledge of the post and replies and the time metadata remains in the old channel.

You have an opportunity to fix and to make this a good knowledge management system but as you wont, people will look for another solution... Please for the love of Odin, fix this !

You are so right! I am totally fed up with this, to the point I am starting to use other 3rd party apps outside of MS365 (not ideal). But the functionality of Teams is stale. There was a time when they (Microsoft) seemed concerned about Slack, Notion and others but now they are back to their old ways of ignoring innovation. I think they're distracted by AI. MS365 is not delivering. We are looking for solutions away from 365.

This needs to be fixed! Like many before me said: people do not post in the correct channel and we need to manage that. Fix it! It's a known issue now for many years.

All teams have Owners. They should have the possibility to move a message from one channel to another, at least within the same Team.
