Teams - Revert to Classic Emojis

Just adding another request on top of the pile to allow us to use the old emoji set. I'm sure someone worked very hard on them, but in my work context they just don't provide anything I actually want to use to express myself. Even the most basic smiley is just so...uncanny valley.

Edit: Also, the feedback links in the first few posts of this thread are closed. Does that mean this will get some attention?

Edit 2: After reading a couple of pages of comments, I can understand that there may be business reasons for MS not to want to revert. Users don't want it to be a customization setting because what looks like a classic emoji to me might show up as the cartoonish new version for you. To me, it doesn't seem like an overly burdensome request to just include a new tab for classic emojis. They're already designed, as long as compatibility isn't broken, it should work, and it wouldn't add much bloat to the program...maybe a few dozen MB? Pretty please?

I'm seeing a lot of vitriol in this thread, but I don't think it's accomplishing much.

Think about the situation from Microsoft's perspective. Change is expensive. We're not competing for their attention just with those who actively enjoy the new emoji, but also with those who view them ambivalently. And Microsoft has a lot of customers.

Further, anyone who is this angry is probably going to hate Microsoft whether they change the emojis back or not. Microsoft probably doesn't see you as profitable to win over. Catering to those who hate your product is a very bad idea.

Beyond that, Microsoft has stated ideological reasons for the change, and people are willing to undergo cost to promote ideas. They probably view us as ideological opponents since we're opposing their efforts. They will change the emoji back only if they decide not to promote "emotional honesty and playfulness" (by their definition), decide that the new emojis are an ineffective means of doing so, or see such huge potential financial loss that they decide to sacrifice their ideals for money.

And the very fact that we're complaining indicates that we probably can't just switch to Slack or we would have done so already and moved on with our lives.

I very much sympathize. The current Teams emoji feel like SnapChat. But if you hate them that much, then vote with your money and use a different program. You don't have much power to change Microsoft's mind (and raging probably diminishes that power unless you can convince others by doing so). Improve your own lifestyle instead. If you can't switch off Teams, you're pretty much powerless. Either deal with it or learn to communicate without emoji. Leave feedback, sure, but don't give yourself a heart attack. Communicate and prioritize for your best lifestyle. Change what you can change rather than taking responsibility for the decisions of others.

I, for one, really appreciate the new emojis. I finally feel like I can effectively communicate my emotions to all the 4-7 year old's that I correspond over Teams with.

Brava to you Microsoft, for keeping the Baby Shark animators in your employ.

I agree with the above comments about how bad new emojis are and would like to add a new angle to this: they are also very damaging for neuroatypical people like I am. Our brain does not tolerate fake-3D and these new emojis look 3D-ish. They also move and have intense, disturbing colours. I know I can turn off animation, but this not solve the rest of the problems that made emojis unusable for me. I had to ask my work colleagues not to use any when they contact me. They just literally hurt me.

I've noticed the same thing and the new emoticons are horrible. Here's a temporary fix that may help that I use. I'm on a Mac and the same keyboard shortcut that I use to bring up regular emoticons in my Outlook mail can be used in Teams. I use Control + Command + Space Bar. This brings up a menu of icons like you'd see on an iPhone. I use those instead because these new ones are absolutely ridiculous.
