MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

Many thanks in advance.

This problem is driving me crazy. Seems worse than it used to be. Any video call I take part off on MS Teams makes my fans kick on to be super loud and my microphone picks it up. Would love to see a fix for this.

    Machine specs:

    MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

    2.4 GHz 8-core Intel Core i9

    64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

Teams Version: 1.3.00.18164 (updated on 08/12/2020)

That's interesting. I'm running a newer version updated two days ago. "You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.21753. It was last updated on 8/11/20."

Wonder why yours was updated more recently but is older?

What a mess. I'll post an update when I've had time to observe performance on my four different Mac workstations.

I do the following to reduce noise, including fans, that a mic on a laptop can easily generate and cause disruption:

    1. headphones - I prefer a Jabra headset but use both Jabra or AirPods Pro.  Any will work as long as you are away from the laptop.
    2. I use a noise canceling product called "krisp". It cancels outgoing noise as well as incoming noise. Very helpful for those people on the call who don't have noise cancelling. I just never hear it at all. It is strange to turn it off during a large call and hear all the background noise again.

I am still frustrated by the Compute Power that Teams consumes. Oddly, I tried the AI Powered "Together Mode" that takes all video feeds, removes the backgrounds and places the people in an auditorium.  I really think there is potential here. I expected the CPU to skyrocket since it is effectively doing AI based background removal of every feed coming in and your video as well using just your local Compute. However, the CPU consumption didn't change for me and I wondered if there is a lot going on with MS Teams for features like Together Mode even if it isn't turned on. I'm hoping as MS continues to fine tune the app that they make it more efficient and smart about compute usage.
