MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

    We must be going for a record!

    Sitting here with a colleague right now in a Teams meeting using a Macbook from 2020 and the fan is going loud and strong! An absolute joke!!

    Same here. It was fine for two years - now my 2018 Mac gets hot and fan goes on when on teams.

    The renderer is eating up most of my CPUs capacity now. Annoying.

    Totally agree Dirk. Have been living with same.

    Decided to make lemonade with these lemons. Am now cooking breakfast eggs on laptop during our morning meetings. Gas heating bills have also decreased as well, which is great seeing as how gas prices have been going.

    Microsoft, any way you can make it run a bit hotter? I like a crispy fried egg and it's almost, but not quite there.

    Another upside—I don't have to run my in-home white noise generator any more to emulate the HVAC system at the office. Teams ramps up my fans and keeps them going. And just like when the HVAC at the office shuts down at 7pm and the silence is eerie, so it is when I end a Teams call.

    I especially appreciate the noise level that comes through from a presenters mic as well—adds to the collective ambience and I nearly feel like I'm back in my cubicle.

    Silence is overrated.

    2019 MBPro, i9, 32gb RAM. Two things are guaranteed to run my fans at full RPM. Rendering from my 3D app, pushing all 8 cores to 100%, and MS Teams.

    People - I found the bug and some kind of a solution with the help of seo-praxis.de

    Main question: If you are joining a teams meeting, your pc is getting very loud, and slow?

    Question 1: Do you use Teams MacOS App?

    Question 2: Do you use external screens?

    Then the solution might be working for you as well.

    Step 1: Go into an empty meeting/test with a friend & close all other Apps beside Teams.

    Step 2: Open "Activity Monitor" and watch CPU usage.

    Step 3: Wait until the mac CPU usage is getting high (>50%)

    Step 4: Don't get angry.

    Step 5: Disconnect all external monitors.

    Step 6: Wait 1-3minutes (it sometimes takes a while).

    Step 7: Your mac should now be down to <20% CPU usage and you can have the meeting normally.

    Since the Team around Teams is obviously not able to fix this bug since 2 years..

    at least the solution will enable you to take part in meetings again.
