Clearly hasn't been fixed then. 2022 and it's still using 97% CPU on a call with 3 people.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.
Many thanks in advance.

I spoke with Satya Nadella and he recommends increasing your CPU power 10X. Teams will only use 9.7% CPU after this upgrade and you'll be much more satisfied with your overall computing experience.
Teams worked for about 2 years on my Macbook without any problems. 2 weeks ago it started with the issues described here. On a call, the renderer takes about 100% CPU and the call UI becomes unusable. The rest of the application is very slow then.
It is impossible to mute or do anything else. Closing the call restores the old behavior and I can work again. The main Teams application runs okay.
At the moment I use the workaround using the browser app instead.
GPU acceleration is disabled, the turbo boost switcher is running and of course I deleted the caches and even re-installed the app.
I am experiencing the same issue with version: 1.5.00.8073 updated 2022-03-28
Same here, Brand new MacBook Pro 14" with M1, Teams is running on Version 1.5.00.6181.
My Mac is running on Monterey Version 12.3.1.
