MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

I found a new solution that has been working for me the past two weeks. YMMV but I wanted to share it here to see if it helps others:

Turn on Low Power Mode

I know that sounds obvious, but it worked and I haven't noticed any performance degradation with my high power apps (compilers, renderers, etc). I can now use MS Teams without my fans turning on and sounding like a jet engine. This solution includes when I am in video meetings using my camera/mic and even when I have more than one monitor hooked up.

To enable Low Power Mode, go to System Preferences -> Battery -> Power Adapter -> Low Power Mode

Tech Specs -

Device: MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)

macOS Version: 12.1 (Monterey)

Microsoft Teams Version: 1.4.00.29478

Hope this solution works for other folks as well

Appreciate the feedback. Love using TEAMS, and how it's integrated. It just sucks in that it eats up mac's resources.

Also noticed, that Teams is not yet native in M1.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

Yes it's worth using in the sense that it will stop Teams from completely melting your Mac. But it's not a solution, the problem remains, Teams will still occupy close to 100% of the (non boosted) CPU.

I have a feeling nobody at MS is looking at this. How can we attract them to this topic ? Can someone raise a complaint/ticket with their help desk or i don't know.

I do have M$ support at my work, although I am not certain how that would play out for me since we don't have MAC machines, nor support them. M$ would probably tell me that since it's a MAC, they cannot support it.

I will see what one of the managers say. I am using it for testing purposes, and it is solely for work so....

I will check out the Turbo Boost Switcher and see what my results are.
