MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

Many thanks in advance.

I have this same issue and it is INFURIATING. How has this not been resolved. I cannot attend meetings with video or desktop sharing, I have to attend from my iPhone or iPad. I do not have this issue with ANY other webinar provider, zoom, webex, etc.

Still a huge issue, and no good replies from Microsoft at all...typical.

We'll keep pointing our organization at something else I guess.

From the beginning of my career I have seen the problems of Microsoft. I thought with time that things were getting better, but as I watched Windows users notice the same problems with each release, I realized that the user/development team relationship was always bad. My organisation forced me to switch to Teams without asking me. Today it is unacceptable for me to have my stable apple environment polluted by unstable software. teams has already crashed my machine at least 4 times. My last apple crash I can't even remember when. Skype user, I can't even understand why Teams has lost functionality.

It's not that hard to make a menu where you can disable the use of the mac's GPU by Teams! It's also not difficult to allow an incoming call to join a conference.

It seems that nobody uses this software at microsoft. It seems that no one reads the forums. Because macos, teams and crash or freeze are found together since the beginning of Teams... Since the beginning Teams is not reliable.

You guys shake it up at microsoft, don't forget the cousins who have a mac!

Pff I was hoping it was solved with the update. I guess it's the update from M'soft Teams that needs to get the update.

Can anybody tell me why that is not happening, while there are so many complaints?????

It's likely got nothing to do with MacOS - the operating system is capable of running video chat in an efficient way. Just look at all the other similar apps which run fine - Zoom, Skype, Hangouts, etc.

The issue looks to be with the implementation of the video chat in Teams. It could be an issue with Electron, which is the framework on which Teams is built. Or it could be in an issue with the Teams implementation of it. Either way, I am hopeful it's fixable in a future Teams release.

In the meantime I've had to splurge on an external graphics card for my MacBook Pro, which has eliminated the performance problems Teams was causing every time a video call was launched. <-this actually works. That said, one shouldn't have to buy a high end gaming GPU just to run their work chat software.
