Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

Teams is quite poor quality these days affecting calls going all jittery as it consumes high amounts of CPU.
Teams on Mac is unusable really, as soon as I do a call my CPU goes to 100% and my macbook becomes unresponsive... and I have a macbook prod 16" 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9.
Please MS fix this!
maybe a little workaround, restart your teams after calls where you have been sharing your screen of video dialing, it frees up some memory and you are good for a while
i also tried disabling GPU acceleration, does not work
but indeed i also have a macbookpro 2020 fullspec, 64GB RAM, and teams just slows the whole thing down
and also since my upgrade to mac os big sur, my notifications text is gone, i use teams in dark mode
Similar experience here. Point o point calls with teams consume 150% CPU load without a problem. This happens on every mac at my work site. We even tried a brand new mac with nothing else installed. Don;t try and be mobile and use teams. It completely kills battery's in about 45 min. Its so effective at killing the battery that the OS then complains of battery issues post. Zoom on the other hand consumes 35% CPU in a very very large meeting. Seems microsoft have something very wrong and have not been able to correct it in a year or so. In other words, don;t look for this to be fixed, move to another option.
I'm not using the Teams app anymore. As I don't have another option but to use MS solutions because of the corporate stack, the workaround which is working ok is to use Teams on the Chrome web app. Use significantly less CPU load, energy, and everything else.
It's embarrassing, of course, but had to buy and install Turbo Booster Switcher Pro to deactivate the booster in addition to using Chrome.
Any other app like Zoom, Google Meet, Whereby, and others have a better experience Than Teams. Shame on you, MS.
Another problem I have after the recent update is that I need to approve permission for sharing screen and quit Teams and then load again every time I need to share any presentation on my screen. So I'm not using the Teams app anymore; instead, I'm using it on the Chrome web app.
Neither Safari nor Firefox supports Teams’ web app.
