MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

    I am entirely stunned as MS is unable to solve such an important problem for its users on the Mac platform. In my case, I am using a MacBook Air 2020 Core i7 16GB RAM, and I am struggling to use MS Teams Meetings because of the MS Teams Helper.

    I see that the problem has been going on for months or years, and nobody does anything about it. You should apologize to the Apple user community.

    I'm required to use third-party apps like Turbo Boost Switcher Pro to manage my CPU when I use MS Teams Meetings. This is embarrassing!

    same issue affects skype as well.

    what is MS doing to resolve that issue?

    I would also highly recommend disabling the "new meeting experience" mode under the settings --> general, in case you have it enabled. The latest version is extremely slow even on the MB Pro 16 if that's enabled making the video calls run in slow motion... (at least on my end!).

    Once disabled it's at least usable.

    Thanks for thisinsight, Rob. I will test tomorrow and report back. Of course my issue with running full screen is that my ability to multi-task is nil. :(

    The Mac app just received a significant update this week, but this new version seems to be even more resource intensive than the last one.

    I may have stumbled upon a fix... when I use Teams in fullscreen mode, the CPU utilization goes way down and the fans are much quieter. But when the window is not maximized, the Teams Helper app remains at 200%-300% CPU use.  Anyone else find this behaviour?

    Using a 2020 MacBook Air.
