Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

I think it's because teams is free, Microsoft uses your pc resources to their advantage(I might be wrong). That's the reason why I use zoom and always will.
I have just experienced a 100% CPU usage recorded on my new M1 silicon MacBook Pro 13".
I was on a video call meeting and with some apps running in the back ground. (MS Word, Calendar and MS Edge)
The MBP was certainly very very hot and the fan kicked in.
(oops... I just read Shaun Trane's post and was indeed hooked up to a 2nd monitor... let me try again unhooked)

Thanks for sharing this. I tested and found the same issue. While the monitor is connected. It shows CPU Usage > 350%
After disconnecting Monitor it drops to 5-8%.
Specs:
macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 (MacBook Pro with Quad-Core Intel Core-i7)
Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.33671.
I have also noticed that if I don't have a second screen attached that MS Teams runs great. Just having my 2019 16" MBP on my lap without anything plugged in at all and I see no problems. But as soon as I connect it to another monitor then MS Teams can no longer handle a meeting without the fans spinning up and the CPU hitting 100% usage.
