MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

    I have resorted to using the Microsoft Edge browser for macOS, launching Teams via URL (https://teams.microsoft.com) then copying and pasting any Teams meeting URLs from Outlook into a second browser tab after authentication. Select cancel when it tries to launch the Teams app. Then select use Edge browser for meeting. Works flawlessly. However you do lose some functionality like virtual backgrounds and some of the attendee video layouts. You can screen share and change audio/video configurations like the app. Just be sure to go into your macOS security settings and allow the Edge browser to use your camera and microphone as well as privacy settings to allow for sharing your desktop and/or apps. Once it's setup it works well and uses almost no system resources. At least Microsoft got it right with their browser. Have to say, I actually like Edge on the Mac and it also has most of the same plugins that Chrome does. Which is a bonus as Chrome is nearly as bad with system resources nowadays.

    I have the same issue. This is a nightmare! I work in files, shifts and teams meetings all day.

    I've reinstalled it. Removed app plists, removed application support and still the same.

    Please tell me there is a fix for this issue soon?

    This still happens to me a lot, and can be quite frustrating. My current setup is an Air M1, and what I noticed that as the day progress (MS Azure is the main driver of our company), and since most of the messages, and calls are on teams I suddenly see it eating up my Memory usage to a point that my 16GB RAM can't even handle it anymore.

    Quite surprised that this is a persisting issue. And this seems to be very specific to MacOS, since I have no issues on Teams with iPad OS, or iOS.

    At least, I'm glad to know that I'm not alone, and this is a persisting issue. Makes me want to switch out of Azure. Which is too bad because in general, Azure has been great in my workflow.

    I have the same problem. Teams helper with video consumes 276% of the processor.

    As soon as you stay in call but without video, the power consumption goes down to 17,2 %..

    Yes, this really is bothersome. My computer grinds to a stop when I launch Teams, and it uses up 131% of my CPU (!). I considered buying a new computer, but realised after reading from you guys that it's not the computer that is bad.
