MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tip - reading this forum cannot believe this is still an issue.

Completely anecdotal but sometimes I need to disable gpu rendering and sometimes enable it - something happens (assume an update) then teams consumes all of every cpu on my poor macbook pro (2019) and so I reverse the current state of gpu rendering and that seems to fix it.

It's likely got nothing to do with MacOS - the operating system is capable of running video chat in an efficient way. Just look at all the other similar apps which run fine - Zoom, Skype, Hangouts, etc.

The issue looks to be with the implementation of the video chat in Teams. It could be an issue with Electron, which is the framework on which Teams is built. Or it could be in an issue with the Teams implementation of it. Either way, I am hopeful it's fixable in a future Teams release.

In the meantime I've had to splurge on an external graphics card for my MacBook Pro, which has eliminated the performance problems Teams was causing every time a video call was launched. <-this actually works. That said, one shouldn't have to buy a high end gaming GPU just to run their work chat software.

Pff I was hoping it was solved with the update. I guess it's the update from M'soft Teams that needs to get the update.

Can anybody tell me why that is not happening, while there are so many complaints?????
