MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

    Don't bother.

    There is not yet a fix to this issue, short of turning off your camera and turning off all incoming video.

    I can't do anything on my Mac when in a Teams meeting. This problem has been for a really long time now, so I understand that we should find other solutions that Microsoft products to get things done. 

    It's unbelievable actually.  It's the same with Skype too. I guess because we are on Mac, they are not bothered about fixing it. Just pushes you towards Zoom (which does NOT have this issue)

    Thanks for sharing this. I tested and found the same issue. While the monitor is connected. It shows CPU Usage > 350%

    After disconnecting Monitor it drops to 5-8%.

    Specs:
    macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 (MacBook Pro with Quad-Core Intel Core-i7)
    Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.33671.

    I now have a brand new Air M1 / 16GB DRAM.   This one purs.  Uses about 20% CPU and about 30% GPU.  New airs have no fan so no issues there.  Device is cool to touch.  It could be the 16GB DRAM. My september 2020 i5 had 8GB DRAm and it would grt crushed by teams with the inability to open other windows or multitask on attached LCD monitor.  I also think the 2020 i5 was being streased by driving the attached monitor.  Try and run with nuat the MAC and detach HDMI second screen ( especially on intel ).

    Hello Everyone

    Happy (but also very sad) to find that so many people have the same problem as me.

    In these already complicated times, with hours and hours spent in video on Teams every day and millions of MS Teams users on Mac, it's absolutely a shame that no one at Microsoft is taking this problem seriously. It's been 6 months now and dozens of posts exist on the forums but still, absolutely no solution is found or proposed.

    What a pity.

    Many people mention the competitor Zoom, which indeed works without any problem on the Mac...

    And by reducing all these extreme CPU consumptions, you would even do a major ecological action for the planet!

    Come on Microsoft, find a way!
