No sound when entering a Meeting on Teams

Hello,

I have observed on numerous occasions that when I enter a Meeting on the Microsoft Teams Windows app (with my Mic and Camera off, because it is university related and someone else is presenting) I can't hear anything. It doesn't happen all the time. I have tried entering the Meeting again and sometimes it works and I can hear. I have also opened the Volume mixer and that was not the issue (the Meeting was note muted). I even tried reinstalling the App. This only happens in a Meeting, not a private call with someone else and only on the Windows app, not the browser. I would like to use the App though, so does anyone know how I can solve this?

Thank you in advance!

During a job interview yesterday I dialed into MS Teams. The Interviewer could hear me, I could not hear her.

I checked my audio settings on my PC Laptop. All audio settings seemed to be working properly.

I am using the internal RealTex audio

This only happens while using MS Teams

I faced a similar issue where I would join meetings with audio muted, with a small "x" on the Mic on the meeting window. I had to click on the Mic before I could join audio with computer audio. I realized this issue started once I had to join a meeting with phone audio and selected the "Don't join audio" radio button. This setting remained for all future Teams meeting.

To fix this issue I had to select "Computer audio" radio button while joining a meeting and the original audio settings was restored.

It took me long to figure out because I could not find any option to modify this setting from within Teams settings or within Teams meeting settings. I could change it only while joining a meeting.

The solution turned out to be quite simple, but I joined many meetings without audio and missed initial conversations because I forgot to click on the Mic to join audio.

    Hope this helps someone.

I finally found out my no sound issue is because I "joined meeting and not joined meeting."

Typically, when you join a meeting on a computer and then join the same meeting on another device, e.g. iPhone, Microsoft will ask whether you want to either "add this device to the meeting" or "transfer the meeting to this device". But when I do not have sound in Microsoft meeting on the first device, when I join the same meeting with the 2nd device, Microsoft will not ask me the question about transfer the meeting to the 2nd device. This tells me Microsoft Team does not know I'm already in the meeting on the first device. Hence, no sound for me on the first device. After realizing this issue, I signed out Microsoft Team on the first device. Completely closed Microsoft Team. Restart Microsoft Team and resign in. Join the meeting. Sound comes back.

At least this is a step better than reboot my computer (that was the only fix for no sound problem issue for me in the past).

    Hi,

i have almost the same issue with another background. I was using Windows 10 a long time and used also Teams (for small business) - everything was fine. As soon as i upgraded to Windows 11 i got this bug when i join any meeting. All sounds turn off, even music that is currently running in my browser. Uninstalling and Installing Teams again fixed it for the day but on the next day the same issue appears again.

I also have another Teams for my private 365 and that does not have that issue. I can also join through the browser application and do not have that issue. Only the desktop application for Teams (small business) has this issue. As i said, the same setup excect OS version worked fine for a long time, the upgrade to Windows 11 broke it.

    In short:

    • I'm using a bluetooth Headset (Sennheiser HD 350BT) with a bluetooth usb device.
    • The headset is connected for music
    • My Headphones are silent as soon as i join a meeting (even with only myself).
    • In windows sound settings i can still see there is playing something on my headphones
    • As soon as i leave the meeting, i can hear everything again.
    • The headphones have "hands-free" mode but i don't (want to) use it.
    • Only happening on Teams for small business since update of Windows 10 to Windows 11

    Best regards

    Maik

Appears this problem was identified in 2020, and persists today. I've looked across the 9 pages of chat for a solution and have not found anything from MS. Did I miss it?
