MacOS Catalina and Teams Screen Sharing

I updated to MacOS Catalina and now I cannot share my app screens. I can share my desktop, but that is all others can see.

My system had an entry (unchecked) for Microsoft teams. I think it asked me as I was launching but I blew by it. Not sure how you'd add it if it's not there. You just have to turn it on, and Teams screen sharing will work.

    Thanks for the suggestion but the file or folder or application TeamsUpdaterDaemon is not present in the Microsoft folder. So I could not delete it.

    I have, however:

    • restarted the mac
    • closed Chrome
    • deleted and re-installed Teams
    • changed the view from full screen to window on Teams
    • set all the permissions correctly
    • closed and restarted Teams

    Nothing worked and I still can't share my screen. I am about to dump this piece of garbage and go back to using Slack, to be honest.

    Well, it looks like we don't have to blame Microsoft for this problem, but Apple: As far as I understood they don't have a proper documented way for developers to hook into the video output or something like that. As such, programs do interfere with each other when trying to do screen sharing.

    What helped me was to stop other programs one by one until I found one that blocked MS Teams sharing function (turned out to be LaunchBar here). That could be _any_ program, even your browser or any other tool.

    Yes thats correct. The permission issue started across all mac based apps when apple provided the Catalina OS. In the previous mojave version this issue never occured.

    Certainly this is an issue with mac OS which needs to be sorted out.

    In fact some apps like audacity dont even prompt for permission and do not open at all unless you open it from terminal.
