Can you mute by default whenever you enter a TEAMS meeting? I know this option is available in WebEx, but can't seem to find it in the settings in TEAMS.

Been a couple months...thought I'd add another ping/voice to say that this is a critical feature to implement.

Don't know MS release cycle but it needs to be faster than this. We are ~2 years into working remotely and still doesn't have this basic functionality.

This thread came up in response to googling "How to set mute by default in Teams?" Needless to say, disappointed that there still is not an option. So used to entering muted using Webex that did not realize I was causing noise for others. Very bad form.

There also NEEDS to be a user (non organizer) option that should always default to mute. Its very basic, can do with Zoom and others.

I came here looking for a solution and it's amazing how it seems so difficult to understand a simple question. The problem raised by the first user is very simple: "I want to join a Teams meeting in mute by default".

I don't need an organizer to mute all users, I don't want to go there and mute each time I join, I don´t want a solution for 1 caller or 1000 callers, I don't want to know how to add background photos and definitely not going to the moon. I just want (again) join a Teams meeting in mute by default.

    Is it possible or not?

If it is bug, I would appreciate Microsoft could solve it.

If it is not possible by design, than it's ridiculous. Ironically I can't avoid my Teams to join meetings with audio off by default. So unless I'm looking to the screen, I can't understand that I joined because I hear no one but everybody hears me. Apparently, I can't join muted by default but I join with Audio off by default. Great...

I agree that the mic should be on mute by default. People have enough to worry about when signing in for a meeting, they don't need to worry about accidentally saying something stupid because they forgot to mute the mic. BTW, Zoom mutes the mic by default. Teams already automatically mutes the mic if there are 5+ people already joined. I kind of get it that the thinking is that if only 4 people are in a meeting, then probably everyone will be talking, however I would rather have someone say "I think your on mute" than have sounds or voices accidentally be picked up.
