Additional meeting and call-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Yes, I too need to auto-mute when joining all meetings, just like I have set in my preferences in Zoom.

Can you mute by default whenever you enter a TEAMS meeting? I know this option is available in WebEx, but can't seem to find it in the settings in TEAMS.

Looks like this very much needed feature is given a miss in Microsoft Team.

Good suggestion for a workaround, but not practical for normal/regular use. If the solo presenter is the only one with initial "mic on" power, it can easily be overlooked. It also prevents others from talking in the meeting prior to presenter arrival or if presenter is OOO. Default setting should just be to mute, or at least have that option in the configuration settings.
Looks like this STILL isn't an option -- one and a half years later! Thought I read somewhere that Microsoft was serious about competing in this space. Guess not.
I agree that the mic should be on mute by default. People have enough to worry about when signing in for a meeting, they don't need to worry about accidentally saying something stupid because they forgot to mute the mic. BTW, Zoom mutes the mic by default. Teams already automatically mutes the mic if there are 5+ people already joined. I kind of get it that the thinking is that if only 4 people are in a meeting, then probably everyone will be talking, however I would rather have someone say "I think your on mute" than have sounds or voices accidentally be picked up.
