TEAMS - mute by default when entering a meeting

I agree we need this feature. I just was on a meeting and my dog crawled on my lap. When I spoke to him eveyone on the call heard me. I thought I was muted. So frustrating. Shame on microsoft for not having such a basic feature to this software. I much prefer webex.

So, updates to this thread are running over a year old. It is now middle of June 2022 and I have not heard of a fix for this or any adjustments to address this behavior. I guess I have to accept the fact that as a user I must "remember" to check/click boxes before I join a call but yet again my dog just ran barking from the room after I have joined a work call with 8 people - sure enough call was unmuted.

Microsoft...do one of the following...

1. fix the original issues and add an auto-mute for both audio and video ALWAYS feature. This would match your competitors and be basic functionality which everyone is accustomed to in 2022.
2. if the above is too difficult how about popping a second WARNING or REMINDER box AFTER clicking JOIN...Are you sure you want to join unmuted for Audio and unmuted for Video...or something similar. I will take one extra click on an extra box if you all at MS decide this is the only or best way you can address this apparent and frustrating problem.

Can you mute by default whenever you enter a TEAMS meeting? I know this option is available in WebEx, but can't seem to find it in the settings in TEAMS. 

Just my two cents, I 100% agree this needs to be on the list of features. I am a new developer at a company that uses Teams and I used Teams back in school, so not completely unfamiliar. In previous companies I have used Slack, Google Meet and Zoom and all of them have an option to set my mic and video to disabled on join by default WITHOUT having to set this every time I enter a room. I have arrived to a couple of meetings early since starting and not realized that until the room hits 5+ everyone is unmuted. I'm ticking off my new co-workers here! There needs to be an update to fix this MS

I agree, Microsoft needs to address this issue, even from a privacy point of view. I have noticed that if i have my headset sitting on my desk and a Teams call comes in, my headset mic is on live without me touching it. On Zoom there is a setting to make the mic 'Mute on Joining' by default. MS needs to do this asap.

I absolutely agree with everyone else here. This feature should be standard with any web conferencing software. I've been with companies that utilize direct competitors to MS Team and they have all had this feature. It's a history of this sort of lacking functionality that made me cringe when I learned that my new employer used the MS suite.

I'd optimistically hoped that things had improved over the last several years, but apparently not.
