Can you mute by default whenever you enter a TEAMS meeting? I know this option is available in WebEx, but can't seem to find it in the settings in TEAMS.

Yes. It drives home the meme that was going around the internet about the advancements that Microsoft made in quantum computing. The line was something like "Microsoft will literally create a new form of matter before it will fix Teams".

I found myself muted at the beginning of every meeting and not sure how BUT it looks like the options setting that comes up after you click "Join" on a meeting got selected to "Don't Use Audio". It appears this setting stays on and until you change it to "Computer Audio" in another meeting. My suggestion would be to check "Don't Use Audio" at the beginning of your next meeting and I think it will keep that setting for all subsequent meetings.

My guess is that no one from Microsoft moderates or reviews this forum. Or else wouldn't we see a product manager from Microsoft chime in at some point on this multi-year long thread?

Well said MikeyB_2021. Amazing that MS could not see this before even the beta testing, but to continue to fail to see the issue after this long is truly frustrating. Still with industry buy in with the Microsoft 365 products, I suspect it will never be fixed.

With all the remote work going on, my organization has multiple meetings a week with over 100 people in it. It happens quite frequently that someone doesn't notice their mic is not on mute. If you're in a hurry to get into the meeting and you don't give teams a second to check how many people are in the meeting, it's possible to join without it muting the mic for you. That happened to me this morning and I came looking for this exact thing.

If you had asked me yesterday if it was possible to have your mic muted by default, I would have said, "yes, 100% possible." Really shocked to find that it's not something you can set by default. I rely heavily on that setting in other apps for work.
