TEAMS - mute by default when entering a meeting

I have worked in IT operations with over 23 years of experience. It amazes me that this discussion has been going on for 4 years back in 2020 where thousands of people using Teams is asking Microsoft for a default microphone option to set in the Teams audio settings that will allow them to join meetings auto muted. Microsoft should be able to add this update to their next Teams application update patch cycle. This should not be a difficult update to add in Teams that will satisfy thousands of users requesting this update. I was researching for this option when I came across this forum. Why do I need to manually mute each time I join a meeting? Adding a setting to auto mute is an ethical request that Microsoft should add to their Teams product improvements roadmap. Microsoft Teams project team please do the right thing to please the customer(s).

I have a hard time believing this functionality still is not available in 2024. Just take the features in Slack and Zoom and add them to Teams, then everyone on my team would be happy and excited to use Teams. Instead, we use Teams because IT tells us, not because we chose it.

The Teams App on an iPhone is automatically Muted when I join a Meeting.

Yet as everyone else mentioned, it is NOT Muted when joining a Meeting from a PC.

Very annoying.

Interesting that the iPhone App does it, but not the PC App.

I guess the Apple guys who wrote the iPhone App thought things through better than the Microsoft guys who wrote the PC App.

So, updates to this thread are running over a year old. It is now middle of June 2022 and I have not heard of a fix for this or any adjustments to address this behavior. I guess I have to accept the fact that as a user I must "remember" to check/click boxes before I join a call but yet again my dog just ran barking from the room after I have joined a work call with 8 people - sure enough call was unmuted.

Microsoft...do one of the following...

1. fix the original issues and add an auto-mute for both audio and video ALWAYS feature. This would match your competitors and be basic functionality which everyone is accustomed to in 2022.
2. if the above is too difficult how about popping a second WARNING or REMINDER box AFTER clicking JOIN...Are you sure you want to join unmuted for Audio and unmuted for Video...or something similar. I will take one extra click on an extra box if you all at MS decide this is the only or best way you can address this apparent and frustrating problem.

There also NEEDS to be a user (non organizer) option that should always default to mute. Its very basic, can do with Zoom and others.
